“We do gas nitriding on a labor job basis, the rate will be per piece or per kg basis depending on the job description. Call us for best rates.”
Gas Nitriding- In house gas Nitriding furnaces- not one- but the battery of them.
We are having one of the biggest gas nitriding plants in Asia. Our gas nitriding furnaces are of different depths.
What is a gas nitriding?
Gas Nitriding is a case hardening process in which Nascent Nitrogen is diffused into the surface of a Solid Ferrous alloy. It gives Excellent wear resistance, Hardness up to 70 Rc, i.e. 950 to 1150 VPN is possible.
Screws and barrels are gas nitrided to ensure hardness and wear resistance.

Gas Nitriding is performed on finished components. It gives Excellent corrosion resistance against humid air & water. It is a case hardening process & hence core can remain tough.
Gas Nitriding is done on alloy steel which contains Aluminum, Chromium, Tungsten & Molybdenum. Mo reduces the risk of embitterment at Nitriding temperature. Nickel, Copper, Silicon & Manganese do not give any advantages of Nitriding Nitriding properties. Gas Nitriding is not done on carbon steel except for corrosion resistance properties. Alloy having Aluminum gives maximum hardness & wear resistance.
APPLICATIONS
The following steels can be Nitrided for a specific application :
a. EN 41 B; b. EN 40 B; c. EN 19; d. EN 24;
e. 4100; f. 4300; g. 5100; h. 6100; i. 8600;
j. 9300; k. 9800
Also, hot die steels like H11; H12; h13; Stainless Steel of ferritic & martensitic 400 series can be Nitrided.
In single stage nitriding, the same temperature is maintained throughout the cycle & double stage nitriding which is also known as Flow Process, the temperature is increased in the second stage.
In single stage Nitriding the white layer is0.05mm on surface & 0.08 at corners.
The advantage of the white layer is; it gives corrosion resistance to nitrided steel components & the disadvantage is; it is very hard & brittle.
The following material can be nitrided :
- Screws & Barrels which are used in Plastics processing machines.
- Gears & other machine tool components where distortion is a major criterion.
- Components where L : D ratio is more than 10: 1.
- Many parts can be nitrided without any appreciable distortion since the operation is done at a lower temperature. Slightly distorted parts can be straightened both cold & hot.
- If the decarburized layer is not removed before Nitriding; the case will spall readily after Nitriding.
